Co-founded in 2014, we knew that we wanted to make a difference in our community. Driven by environmental stewardship, we melded our backgrounds in sustainability, policy, community development, sales, and restaurant management into Impact Earth. In July 2014, we developed our very first zero waste service at an event in Ithaca, NY. Fast forward to today, Impact Earth now serves the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes Region as the one stop shop for zero waste services.
Why is our work important? Did you know that landfills are reaching their maximum capacities all across the country? Soon enough, they'll close their operations and our communities will need another solution. This is where we come in. Impact Earth is a change agent company helping bridge the gap into the future of more sustainable living practices and zero waste communities.
Zero waste practices also decrease the amount of methane produced and released into the atmosphere by landfills. This is important because methane is a greenhouse gas that is 20x more powerful than carbon dioxide. A huge methane producer in our landfills is food waste. In New York State, we are anticipating the passing of a Food Waste Ban in the next couple of years to help with this problem. In addition to pushing food waste into composting streams, this new ban will require generators to practice food recovery and donate usable food to food banks. About 95% of the food we throw away ends up being burned or put into the landfill. Composting our food waste is a great solution to decreasing the amount of food waste that ends up in the landfill. In order to combat anthropogenic global warming and climate change, we need to decrease our greenhouse gas emitters.
Together, we can create our sustainable future.
